Throughout history, Art has celebrated the beauty of the human form, but does it sometimes cross the line of what we find acceptable ? What constitutes beauty or erotica and what is just titillation? Have different societies been shocked in different ways over the years? Inspired particularly by a visit to the Gallerie D’Orsay in Paris, this illustrated talk will look at Art from Classical Greece, through the Renaissance and the French Salon to the 20th Century, exploring what has shocked people, what they found acceptable, and how those distinctions have changed through the centuries. You will have the chance to share your views and make up your own mind!
