Sometimes it takes a while for paintings to reveal themselves to us. This illustrated talk is based on masterpieces that gave Edward intriguing insights. There might have been some clue or detail that sparked off a deeper exploration of the intentions of the artist which took him on a journey of discovery. With a degree in the History of Art from the University of Cambridge, Edward speaks with authority spiced with freshness and originality. He conveys his passion for great art and the way that artists use paint. Talks include well known paintings by Piero de la Francesco, Leonardo da Vinci, Titian, Tiepolo, Pieter de Hooch, Georges de la Tour, Mattia Preti, John Everett Millais, Holman Hunt and David Hockney. His aim is to help audiences to develop their own personal engagement with great works of art.

Spending months at sea, negotiating powerful storms and extreme weather, gave him a powerful insight into the impacts of overheated oceans. Those experiences, coupled with the birth of his 4 grandsons, are his motivation as an environmental activist. A former inner city headteacher and educational consultant, he now works through the Church, the Green Party, Greenpeace and Al Gore’s Climate Reality organisation to ensure the future of everyone’s children. His degree at Cambridge was in English Literature and the History of Art. This gave him profound insights into the work of William Blake and an on-going love of Fine Art and the Insights you can gain when you really look deeply at a painting.
