Leadership lessons from one of history's greatest survival stories.

A powerful story of leadership, resilience, and endurance in extreme conditions, this illustrated lecture explores the life and achievements of Sir Ernest Shackleton and his legendary Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition.

Through dramatic storytelling and historic imagery, audiences follow Shackleton's extraordinary leadership as his ship, Endurance, became trapped and ultimately crushed by Antarctic ice. The presentation reveals how Shackleton's calm decision-making, determination, and refusal to abandon his men ensured the survival of the entire expedition against seemingly impossible odds.

The lecture also examines the remarkable journey that followed, including the perilous voyage of the James Caird and Shackleton's daring crossing of South Georgia Island in his quest to rescue his stranded crew.

More than a tale of exploration, this presentation offers timeless lessons in leadership, teamwork, resilience, adaptability, and crisis management that continue to resonate with modern audiences.

Suitable for a wide range of groups and organisations, this is an inspiring and uplifting story of courage, perseverance, and the triumph of the human spirit.

About Ashley Jones MBE

★ About Ashley Jones MBE

Ash was born and raised in South Wales and began his professional journey at the age of 17 when he joined the Royal Air Force. After serving for ten years in the RAF, he went on to build a distinguished 23-year career as a police officer in both England and Wales.

Alongside his public service career, Ash has been a dedicated volunteer with a range of charitable organisations, contributing at every level — from senior leadership to frontline engagement. His commitment to community work led to one of his projects, the Senior Citizen Liaison Team, receiving the prestigious United Nations Public Service Award in 2017.

Since retiring from law enforcement in 2020, Ash has channelled his experience into helping others through his work as a wellbeing trainer with a national military charity. He is also an accomplished professional speaker and enrichment lecturer, delivering talks across the UK and internationally on motivational subjects relating to personal development and historical leaders.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Ash has also found success in the field of digital media. He hosts a lifestyle YouTube channel, The Chap's Guide, which focuses on men's style, self-improvement, and wellbeing. His contributions in this field were recognised in 2025 when he was admitted to the Society of Authors for his body of work. That same year, he also became a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers, one of London's historic livery companies.

Ash is married to Rachael, a company director, and together they have one son, Alex, who is passionate about sport and the Scouting movement.
