Leadership in adversity during the Burma Campaign.
A vivid and inspiring portrayal of Field Marshal William Slim, the man who led Britain's "Forgotten Army" to victory in Burma during the Second World War.
This compelling lecture examines one of the most challenging and least understood campaigns of the war, exploring how Slim's exceptional leadership transformed a demoralised and struggling force into one of the most effective fighting armies of the conflict.
Through historical photographs, maps, and vivid storytelling, audiences are taken deep into the jungles of Burma, where soldiers faced not only a determined enemy but also disease, extreme weather, difficult terrain, and chronic supply problems.
The presentation reveals how Slim's calm leadership, strategic vision, and genuine concern for the welfare of his men helped overcome these immense challenges.
The lecture also explores the remarkable series of victories that ultimately drove Japanese forces from Burma and secured one of the most significant military successes of the Second World War.
More than a military history presentation, this talk examines the enduring leadership principles that made Slim one of Britain's most respected commanders. Audiences will discover lessons in resilience, communication, humility, trust, and leading under pressure that remain as relevant today as they were eighty years ago.
Often described as Britain's finest general of the twentieth century, William Slim's story is both inspiring and thought-provoking, shining a light on a remarkable leader who deserves to be far better known.
An engaging presentation for audiences interested in military history, leadership, and the extraordinary achievements of ordinary men under exceptional circumstances.
