Triumph over adversity and determination to succeed.

The inspiring life story of the legendary RAF ace who overcame immense adversity to become one of Britain's most celebrated wartime heroes.

This engaging lecture explores the remarkable life of Sir Douglas Bader, a man whose determination and resilience defied all expectations. Following the loss of both legs in a flying accident in 1931, Bader refused to accept defeat. Through extraordinary perseverance, he learned to walk again, regained his pilot's licence, and ultimately returned to active military service.

Audiences will follow Bader's journey from his early years in the Royal Air Force through his distinguished service during the Second World War, where he became one of the RAF's most successful fighter leaders during the Battle of Britain and beyond.

Through historical photographs, film footage, and compelling storytelling, the presentation examines the qualities that defined Bader's character: courage, determination, leadership, and an unwavering refusal to surrender to circumstance.

This remarkable story demonstrates how resilience, self-belief, and a positive attitude can help individuals overcome even the most daunting challenges. Audiences leave inspired by Bader's refusal to be limited by his disability and motivated by the enduring lessons his life continues to offer.

A powerful and uplifting presentation suitable for audiences of all ages, particularly those with an interest in military history, leadership, and personal development.

About Ashley Jones MBE

★ About Ashley Jones MBE

Ash was born and raised in South Wales and began his professional journey at the age of 17 when he joined the Royal Air Force. After serving for ten years in the RAF, he went on to build a distinguished 23-year career as a police officer in both England and Wales.

Alongside his public service career, Ash has been a dedicated volunteer with a range of charitable organisations, contributing at every level — from senior leadership to frontline engagement. His commitment to community work led to one of his projects, the Senior Citizen Liaison Team, receiving the prestigious United Nations Public Service Award in 2017.

Since retiring from law enforcement in 2020, Ash has channelled his experience into helping others through his work as a wellbeing trainer with a national military charity. He is also an accomplished professional speaker and enrichment lecturer, delivering talks across the UK and internationally on motivational subjects relating to personal development and historical leaders.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Ash has also found success in the field of digital media. He hosts a lifestyle YouTube channel, The Chap's Guide, which focuses on men's style, self-improvement, and wellbeing. His contributions in this field were recognised in 2025 when he was admitted to the Society of Authors for his body of work. That same year, he also became a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers, one of London's historic livery companies.

Ash is married to Rachael, a company director, and together they have one son, Alex, who is passionate about sport and the Scouting movement.
