This talk covers two 19th century authors, one male, one female, both of whom were very famous and well-loved in their day. The Victorian public enjoyed their work, but the private lives of these two authors concealed much that would shock the public if (or when!) it came to light. (Just to clarify: this talk is NOT about the life of Charles Dickens).

This talk would be of interest to groups of people who enjoy hearing about authors and Victorian literature, but who also enjoy a talk with some humour.

About Margaret Mills

I am a qualified and experienced (25 plus years) part-time adult education lecturer, and give talks to various different organisations. My specialisms are History and English Literature, (mainly 18th and 19th centuries) and my talk topics are mainly selected from this period. I also broadcast a regular book review slot and a local history slot on community radio, and regularly contribute to newsletters, magazines and journals of both the Bronte Society and the Jane Austen Centre. I am a member of the Royal Historical Society. My academic qualifications are a BA Honours Degree in Humanities with History, and a Masters Degree in Education, also Post-graduate Certificates in both Education and Educational Learning Support. My talks can be anything from 30 minutes to an hour (or more) in length, depending on requirements, and I am always happy to answer questions afterwards. The talks I give can be of a purely academic nature, or there are other options with a more light-hearted and humorous slant, if required! My aim is to inform and entertain.
