Father, mother, daughters and son - a look at this unconventional, talented, but often tortured literary family. The novels written by 3 daughters of the family rank among works of classic literature today and have been loved by generations of readers all over the world. How did the 3 spinster daughters of a poor clergyman produce works that broke new ground in Victorian England - and scandalised some of the public? The male members of the family have sometimes had unflattering portrayals, and we look at whether this has been warranted.
