The year 2025 marks the bicentennial of the opening of the Stockton and Darlington Railway and thus the celebration of two centuries of railways, although it wasn't Britain's earliest railway.

In a new social history talk commemorating the railways' 200th anniversary, professional historian Dr Richard Marks, will explore how the new trains played a pivotal role in the Industrial Revolution and became instrumental in the wide social transformations of the 19th century.
