This presentation delves into the history of British Rail Engineering Limited (BREL), established in 1970 to supply British Rail with trains and related equipment.
The discussion extends beyond trains, concentrating on the company, its workforce, and the impact on local communities. It draws on fresh insights from newly accessible archival records that, for the first time, disclose BREL's true narrative.
Attendees will discover the company's actual achievements and how BREL might have become an international frontrunner in the rail industry had it been allowed to realize its full potential. The factors that hindered this success will be explored in the talk.
The presentation complements my book on BREL, released by Pen and Sword in March 2024.
Availability for the talk begins in April 2024. Book your date early.
