Richard Boys (17 June 1849 – 4 January 1896) was an English cricketer active in the late 19th century who played at Lord's for Lancashire in 1877. He owned a hatter's and hosier's shop in Burnley. In his obituary it was noted that he was 'quiet, gentle and genial'. The collapse of a chimney next to his shop caused death and destruction leaving four orphans in its wake. The talk looks at Richard's life before the disaster, and discusses the events surrounding his death in 1896 which are largely forgotten today.
