James Caldwell (1759-1838) as a teenager started working for Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s. He then became his executor and to a certain extent followed in his footsteps in the Potteries Region. He lived at Linley Wood near Talke, Newcastle upon Lyme, Staffordshire. He was a partner with Enoch Wood in the company Wood and Caldwell (1791-1818).
