This short talk illustrates the development and role of temporary 2 ft gauge military railways of the 'meccano' type to service the stalled war in the west and the approach adopted by the front's 4 main protagonists i.e. France, UK, Germany and USA.

Retired Chartered Engineer who currently undertakes some tour management for UK worldwide rail travel company. Widely travelled, much of which is independent, around the 5 continents of the world plus Aus and NZ. Visited parts that most others haven’t e.g., North Korea, Pakistan, Eritrea, Paraguay, Syria .......
