York was the gateway to the north and just 2 years after the London & Birmingham Rly - Britian's first mainline, opened; York was connected to the rail network. The route, from Euston via Rugby, Leicester and Derby was 40ml. longer than the A1 road. Twelve years later in 1852 a new direct route from King's Cross opened. Built on the site of a former smallpox hospital and alegedly Boudicca's grave, this offering tells the story and journeys the route with steam locomotion.
