Elizabeth Hervey, second wife of John Hervey, Earl of Bristol was a Lady of the Bedchamber to Queen Caroline and as such wielded great influence. At least three of her sons served at court leading Robert Walpole to comment 'There is the King and then the Herveys'. Her story is a great snapshot into early Georgian life and all its vices.
