From AD 43, the Romans introduced roads, towns, written records and. importantly, new foods to Britain. Anglo-Saxons later relied on grains, meat and dairy whilst cooking was refined after the Norman conquest. The Crusades added sugar and spices to our diet, with the Tudor's introducing potatoes, tomatoes and cocoa, shaping our present day food culture.
