Professional opera singer, Grace Lovelass, talks about fulfilling a lifetime dream to complete a full-distance IRONMAN triathlon. Initially hampered but ultimately spurred on by the unexpected inconvenience of the COVID-19 pandemic, Grace talks through her motivation, training and first attempt in Vichy, France 2021. The talk combines Grace's trademark comedy and candour as she relives her journey from scratch to 140.6 miles of endurance sport.
Views: 62 | Enquiries: 0Grace Lovelass is an operatic mezzo-soprano whose roles include Witch/Mother in Hansel & Gretel and Tisbe in La Cenerentola (both Opera Kipling/Camden Fringe), Romeo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi and Dido in Dido & Aeneas (both Red Earth Opera), the Sorceress in Dido & Aeneas (Somerset Opera), and Marthe Schwerdtlein in Faust with Opéra de Baugé. A versatile entertainer, she has written and produced her own comedy music show, Ballgowns & Bib Shorts – the musical memoir of an opera-singing triathlete (developed with support from Lighthouse – Poole’s Centre for the Arts and MAST Mayflower Studios), which premiered at Dorchester Arts and returns for a reboot at Shaftesbury Arts Centre in September. Having gained early experience with Dorset Opera Festival, Grace’s professional career began in productions devised by Pamela Howard OBE and has included concert work with Oxford University Sinfonietta, as well as choral solo roles under the baton of David Ogden. She made her Edinburgh Fringe debut with musical Are you worthy? following acclaim in lead roles with Brighton Theatre. Grace studied opera at the Associated Studios and has a degree in Classics from King’s College London. She is also a long-distance triathlete, as documented in Trioomph – the podcast, and is frequently booked as a public speaker talking about her life as a singer and three-time IRONMAN finisher.
