An energetic and candid insight into the day-to-day life of a professional opera singer and entertainer. Grace talks through her unorthodox route into the industry and a 'behind the curtain' look at practice methods, auditions and job opportunities, as well as what happens when things go wrong and backstage gossip! Proudly identifying as "not your typical classical singer", Grace brings irreverent humour and audience participation to her talks. Also a two-time IRONMAN triathlon finisher, she demonstrates the overlap between sport and art, and extols an holistic approach to performance.

About Grace Lovelass

Grace Lovelass is an operatic mezzo-soprano whose roles include Witch/Mother in Hansel & Gretel and Tisbe in La Cenerentola (both Opera Kipling/Camden Fringe), Romeo in I Capuleti e i Montecchi and Dido in Dido & Aeneas (both Red Earth Opera), the Sorceress in Dido & Aeneas (Somerset Opera), and Marthe Schwerdtlein in Faust with Opéra de Baugé. A versatile entertainer, she has written and produced her own comedy music show, Ballgowns & Bib Shorts – the musical memoir of an opera-singing triathlete, which recently premiered at Dorchester Arts and was developed with support from Lighthouse – Poole’s Centre for the Arts and MAST Mayflower Studios. Having gained early experience with Dorset Opera Festival, Grace’s professional career began in productions devised by Pamela Howard OBE and has included concert work with Oxford University Sinfonietta, as well as choral solo roles under the baton of David Ogden. She made her Edinburgh Fringe debut with musical Are you worthy? following acclaim in lead roles with Brighton Theatre. Grace studied opera at the Associated Studios and has a degree in Classics from King’s College London. She is also a long-distance triathlete, as documented in Trioomph – the podcast, and is frequently booked as a public speaker talking about her life as a singer and two-time IRONMAN finisher.
