Once the route of an ancient Roman Road and now a busy commercial thoroughfare, Bury New Road cuts through Broughton, Kersal; and Sedgley and then on to Prestwich and Whitefield. From viewing The Transit of Venus at Broughton Spout to Naked Racing on Kersal Moor and not forgetting the table dedicated to W.G. Grace in the local cricket club this talk has something for everyone.

Martin Gittins is a retired Primary School Deputy Headteacher. He has had a lifelong interest in Local History, particularly focussing on North Manchester, and, since 2008 he has been studying the Peterloo Massacre of 1819. He is able to give talks on Local History Subjects, Peterloo, and a small number of other subjects.
