This talk explores two adjacent suburbs to the north of Manchester. From the fringes of the Owd Town to Deer Forest at Blackley, the length of Rochdale Road cuts through these two suburbs and enabled their development from small, separate hamlets into one continuous area. The talk describes this development, bringing in details of Toll Houses, Cinemas, Churches, Schools and Pubs, grand old houses, one of Manchester's first general cemeteries and a few gems like Bernard Manning's Embassy Club and the illuminated chimney that someone wanted to twin with the Eiffel Tower!
