Alice de Lacey was nominally one of the most powerful women in 14th century England. She was a countess in her own right and heir to the de Lacy earldoms. Yet she was the victim of abduction, imprisonment and possibly rape. This talk compares the life of Alice de Lacy with the lives of her contemporaries to investigate the status of women in medieval society.
