Perhaps no subject is more emotive than the on-going debate about capital punishment. I guide the audience through what happens in other countries, and what led up to the abolition of hanging in the UK. It is a tale of corruption, incompetence, intellectual bullying by the Oxbridge elite, political drama, racism sexism. It is about a vociferous protesting minority group over-riding the wishes of the silent majority by focusing on a falsehood. We then look at the 5 tales of people intimately involved in the final days of a condemned man in the UK in our own modern day version of the Canterbury tales. Listen to the tales of the Judge, the Defence Lawyer, the Chaplain, the Prison Officer and finally, the hangman. The you can decide on which side of the line you stand.

About Lindsay Whitehouse

I am almost uniquely experienced within the criminal justice system. I worked for the Probation Service in Cumbria. I served as a Prison Governor at a number of different prisons in the Midlands and South West areas of England. I was the first Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex.

I have provided commentary and analysis on a number of BBC programmes, TV and radio. I have written a number of articles aimed at criminal justice professionals involved in the Youth Justice system.

I have also written some short stories, based on my experiences in prison. I have been commended from different sources

My presentations are laced with humour, facts and anecdotes; I seek to take my audience on a journey of exploration inside the murky world or prisons.
