Every culture has an origin story many of which are more colourful and bloodthirsty than our biochemical one! In my talk I explain the evidence that we now have that explains how life began on earth. It is a story involving chemistry, biology and genetics in a non technical way that shows how things are inter connected and have evolved into the diversity of life that we see around us today.

I am a retired Biochemist (Bsc Manchester, PhD London) and worked in the fields of diabetes, obesity and vaccine development. Since retirement I have kept a close interest in research into the origin of life which has seen very significant progress in the last 20 years that deserves the attention of a wider audience. My talk is for non-biochemists and explains how we think life began on this planet and the implication that has for life on other planets.
