Grantchester is a charming village just outside Cambridge, made famous as the setting for the TV series Grantchester. The Old Vicarage has a fascinating history and is the subject of the Rupert Brook poem of the same name that ends with the line 'And is there honey still for tea?' The current owners of the vicarage are Lord and Lady Archer, but the previous occupiers are of more interest.

I then became very involved with my local u3a, an organisation for people who are no longer employed full-time, and as the past chair of the local branch where I also lead the history and photographic groups I am accustomed to presenting illustrated talks on many subjects.
Living in Suffolk most of the talks are based on places in the East of England that I have had the enjoyment of visiting, either when walking or staying in an area. When creating a talk I investigate the history and stories, often unusual, of the people and places I go to which often creates the basis for a good talk.
My talks last about one hour with about two hundred slides to look at, which are all taken myself wherever possible.
