Part of the Thames Path follows the river from the City to Canary Wharf and beyond. It is an area that has changed beyond imagination since the Romans first settled and used the Thames to transport goods to Londinium. In time the docks were created during the height of the Empire until the river became too shallow for the newest ships and Tilbury and Felixstowe took the business. Then came the regeneration creating the modern skyscape that we know today. The talk follows the path and discovers places, stories and myths along the way. It is accompanied by a Powerpoint of nearly 200 slides.

As the past chair of Haverhill & District u3a where I also lead the history and photographic groups I am accustomed to presenting illustrated talks on many subjects. Living in Suffolk most of the talks are based on places in the East of England and are tied to various long distance walking trails that I have had the enjoyment of walking. When doing a walk I am interested in the history and stories of the places I go through which usually leads to the basis for a talk.
