Today we take for granted that complex information can be displayed on a wide range of products, but the technology that makes that possible has evolved very rapidly. Only a few decades ago to display anything other than the most basic information required very expensive, bulky equipment, only available on high value equipment. In this talk I describe how electronic displays evolved during the latter part of the 20th century, illustrated with many pictures from my time working with displays at Ferranti in the 1970s & 80s. My talks draw partly on that but more on my many other interests including: photography, fell walking, bell ringing, railways, bricks, human perception, maths ,... I have given around 250 talks to 100+ different groups. I'm based in Wokingham, Berkshire so limited to the surrounding area for in-person events (but online can be anywhere).
