Details of talks given by David Carter
Having had a lifelong interest in history, military history in particular, I have spent many years doing presentations for various organisations, such as local councils, cadet units and the National Trust. I concentrate on what life was like for the ordinary people who experienced the events we cover. In the case of the military, I usually present the talk dressed in the uniform of the period (even if these days I'm the oldest Tommy in the trench!), with a collection of clothing, weapons and equipment, either original or high quality reproductions, that the audience can see and handle to get a real feel of what it was like for past generations that were actually there, often ordinary people who found themselves in extraordinary situations. I can tailor the talks to cover anything from 45 minutes to a couple of hours (with a NAAFI break of course).
