Details of talks given by Tamsin Lillie
Tamsin is the CEO of the Medic to Medic charity (www.medictomedic.org.uk).
Medic to Medic is a UK registered charity which provides scholarships to trainee health workers in developing countries, with their largest community of students being in Malawi. Medic to Medic supports medical students, physiotherapists, pharmacists, nurse/midwives, mental health workers, clinical officers and optometrists. They select the students most vulnerable to dropping out of their training, namely female students, those from orphan or single parent families with non professional parents from rural areas. These students are the ones most likely to stay in their home countries and work in underserved areas once qualified, yet these are the students most at risk of dropping out of their training. When a student is sponsored by Medic to Medic we guarantee their tuition fees until graduation, provide a twice yearly stationery allowance, medical equipment pack, laptop and medical books. Medic to Medic has over 50 students in training each year and a network of over 100 alumni in Malawi.
Our trustees are based throughout the UK in Oxford, London, Gloucester and Sheffield. Please let us know if you would like a speaker to talk about our work. We are happy to travel dates and timings depending. We are always looking towards new opportunities to advocate for trainee health workers in Africa and opportunities to inform new audiences about our work.
