This 45 - 60 minute performance (length can be changed to suit needs of group), taken from his one man show of the same name, will showcase Ian’s unique, often humourous, and sometimes thoughtful take on life, love, and lumbago. Drawing on reminiscences from his youth, his observation of life in general and his background in mental health, Ian will attempt to weave a pathway between such diverse matters as growing up with his Nanna, negotiating the trials of growing older, love in it's various forms and the anxiety all this can cause in life. Ian combines his love of poetry with comedic storytelling and anecdotes of everyday events we can all relate to. He is keen to demonstrate that poetry does not have to be highbrow and esoteric, but is open to all and has real relevance to everyday life. It is about the world we live in and stories about everyone’s life. He hopes to make people laugh and think in equal measure. Recommendations: 'His material is observational, amusing and self-deprecating on occasions. We had one hilarious poem about buying wives and partners gifts and one about blokes phoning from the supermarket when they could not understand the list (we've all been there....). All our members said what a lovely evening they had.' Thropton WI.

With a range of entertaining poems and anecdotes, I have sets that would be suitable for various groups (Think more Pam Ayres and John Cooper Clarke rather than Wordsworth or Carol Ann Duffy). My performances are energetic, light and engaging, and filled with humour, although I add a couple of more serious poems to the sets, just to provide some shade to the lightness. They are accessible for all ages and contain no swearing. I cover a range of subjects such as: The things your mother used to say to you when you were young, How bad men are at buying presents, My fondness for cups of tea, How I got into poetry and where I get ideas, Old telephone boxes, How my grandmother used to gossip, The perils of getting older, and How bad men are at doing the shopping. Performance lengths can be developed to suit the needs of the group. I have received a range of recommendations including: Central Gosforth WI. 'Huge thanks go to Ian Williams, The Amble Poet, for his performance at our meeting last week. His poetry was humorous, witty and steeped in a world known to all of us … everyday life! If you get the chance to see him perform don’t let it pass you by' and Blyth Spirit WI recently had the Amble Poet. He was fabulous, we had no idea what to expect, but he's very humorous with a great insight into human behaviour, well worth spending an evening with.' (Links to Facebook and YouTube videos of snippets of me performing can be sent if you get in contact - to give you a flavour of what I do.) If you think poetry is not for you this just could be the thing to change your mind.
