This 45 - 60 minute performance will showcase Ian’s unique, often humourous, and sometimes thoughtful take on life, love, and lumbago. Drawing on reminiscences from his youth, his observation of life in general and his background in mental health, Ian will attempt to weave a pathway between growing up with his Nanna, negotiating the trials of growing older, poetry and love and the anxiety this can all cause. Ian combines his love of poetry with comedic storytelling and anecdotes of everyday events we can all relate to. He is keen to demonstrate that poetry does not have to be highbrow and esoteric, but is open to all and has real relevance to everyday life and the world we live in and can tell stories about everyone’s life. He hopes to make people laugh and think in equal measure.

With a range of engaing poems and anecdotes I have sets that would be suitable for various groups. My performances are light, and engaging, and filled with humour, although I add a couple of more serious poems to the sets, to provide some shade to the lightness. They are accessible for all ages. I cover a range of subjects such as: The things your mother used to say to you when you were young, How bad men are at buying presents, My fondness for cups of tea, How I got into poetry and where I get ideas, Old telephone boxes, How my grandmother used to gossip, the perils of getting older, and How bad men are at doing the shopping. Performance lengths can be developed to suit the needs of the group. I have received a range of recommendations including: Central Gosforth WI. 'Huge thanks go to Ian Williams, The Amble Poet, for his performance at our meeting last week. His poetry was humorous, witty and steeped in a world known to all of us … everyday life! If you get the chance to see him perform don’t let it pass you by' and 'Blythe Spirit WI recently had the Amble Poet. He was fabulous, we had no idea what to expect, but he's very humorous with a great insight into human behaviour, well worth spending an evening with.'
