We all have negative thoughts — those quiet, automatic voices that say “I can’t,” “I’m not good enough,” or “Why can’t I just handle this?” While they may have once served as protection, they often end up holding us back.
In this reflective and practical session, participants will explore what negative thoughts are, how they form, and why they can feel so powerful. We’ll look at two common thought patterns in particular — self-blame and "should" thinking — and then work through a simple but effective journaling activity to shift negative self-talk into something more constructive and supportive.
We also explore how to identify and challenge these patterns with real-life evidence, so that the reframing feels not just positive, but true. This session includes techniques from my free “From Self-Doubt to Confidence” toolkit, which participants can access after the session to continue their journey.
Originally developed for a community wellbeing event hosted by Portsmouth Abuse and Rape Counselling Services, this session is suitable for small group workshops, wellbeing series or stand-alone reflective sessions. It can be delivered online, in person or hybrid and typically runs for 60–90 minutes.
Views: 8 | Enquiries: 0I'm a personal development coach, speaker and educator passionate about helping people grow with clarity and confidence. Originally from Barbados, I moved to the UK in 2013 to complete a PhD in Marketing, and since then I’ve built a life and career grounded in reflection, learning and meaningful connection.
I bring together academic experience, coaching expertise and my lived experience as a Black Caribbean woman and immigrant. That combination helps me connect with a wide range of audiences and create spaces where people feel safe to pause, reflect and take action. Whether I’m leading a workshop, delivering a keynote or speaking in a community setting, I aim to bring energy, compassion and structure to every session.
My delivery and materials consistently receive positive feedback for their clarity, practicality and ability to support learning across different formats and settings. Audiences often tell me they leave feeling more grounded, motivated and clear about their next steps. My higher education background, facilitation and coaching experience mean that I’m experienced in designing tailored sessions that meet the specific needs of different groups, ensuring each experience feels relevant, meaningful and supportive.
