As we mark 80 years since the end of the Second World War, this richly illustrated talk takes a look at some of the important artists who were active during the war years 1939-1945 and explores their experiences. It also examines the role of the War Artists' Advisory Committee (WAAC), responsible for commissioning some of the greatest works to come out of that era, many of which can be seen today in the Imperial War Museums. Featuring British artists Paul Nash, Stanley Spencer, Henry Moore, Lee Miller and others. Educational, but pitched to a layman's knowledge and interest level, with time for questions afterwards. Option to present via Zoom.

About Ann Marie Michel

I am an American journalist based in the North West for the last 20 years. I have written extensively on art themes for radio documentaries and the New York-based art magazine ARTnews, and now speak regularly to such groups as the WI, National Women's Register, Probus, Masonic Lodges, U3A and various other community leisure groups. I have a colourful background including years of radio broadcasting in the Netherlands and Switzerland, so I am a professional and engaging speaker. I have travelled extensively for my work and am multi-lingual. I have also worked as writer-in-residence at HMP Lancaster Castle (it closed as a prison in 2011) and I am now part of the Regional Heritage Centre at Lancaster University.

I live in the beautiful Lune Valley village of Wray and travel within approximately one hour radius for live speaking engagements. For those further afield, I am available via Zoom. Please contact me to discuss your needs - you won't be disappointed.
