Andy’s father was a Northampton man and volunteered for service in February 1940, serving through till March 1946. Sent to France in early 1940, he was unable to get to Dunkirk and had to make his own way back to England, along with many others - a harrowing experience.

Later, in the build-up to D-Day, Andy’s father was assigned to Montgomery's staff and as such had access to any number of historical documents, the majority of which he kept. In fact, he collected documents from the day he joined till he was discharged and these make up the bulk of the presentation.

Many have historical significance whilst others, whilst appearing mundane, give a real insight to the day-to-day life of the ordinary soldier. Andy’s father also took any number of photos during his service, and all of these, along with his army service record and various other mementos have allowed Andy to build up an almost complete record of his service.

The presentation also explores Andy’s parent's relationship, before, during and after the war and how his mother coped at home, with a young family whilst his father was somewhere in Europe.

About Andrew Tennet

I was a police officer in Northamptonshire for 30 years, rising from the rank of Police Constable to Detective Chief Inspector and was an accredited Senior Investigating Officer, licensed by the Home Office to investigate the most serious of offences.

During my five or more years as part of the Homicide and Major Crime Team these skills were in constant use. Later, as the deputy head of the the Professional Standards department (the real life 'Line of Duty'), I was able to use these skills again.

I am a keen cyclist and open water swimmer as well as a qualified Open Water Lifeguard.

I have been delivering my presentations for many years or more to a wide range of groups such as the WI, Rotary Clubs, local history societies, Probus and many other social groups. I get many repeat bookings from groups which suggests that they enjoy my talks.

All of my talks are delivered by way of Powerpoint and I have all of my own equipment to do so. Many of the talks are supported by documents and photographs for your audience to examine.
