In this talk Jon will provide practical advice on how to achieve an almost non-diabetic blood sugar as a type 1 diabetic. This is something he has achieved himself, despite 90%, of type 1 diabetics in the UK not achieving even a poor diabetic control.
Achieving normal blood sugar is enormously important as the complications of poorly controlled diabetes involve losing eyesight, limbs, kidney function, heart attack, hypertension to name but a few. Diabetics tend to die of heart attack.
Type 1 diabetics generally tend to gain weight and end up double diabetic, i.e. treated as a type 1 (requiring insulin injections) and a type 2 (requiring insulin sensitising medications). It does not have to be this way, although most people don't realise this and aren't aware of a more effective approach than continuing to take more and more medication.
Jon has worked with leading type 1 diabetes doctors to fine tune his approach and is regarded as a patient expert by his own doctor, and the best performing type 1 diabetic in his community in Hampshire.
Jon is actively involved in an extensive GP and healthcare network, he works as a health coach supporting NHS patients referred to the charity Public Health Collaboration and its Lifestyle Programme. He has worked with 150 diabetics in this way with incredible results. The Lifestyle interventions using this approach have proven to lead to drug free remission from T2 diabetes.
Whilst reversal of T1 diabetes is not a realistic prospect, what is very achievable is reduction of insulin usage (of huge importance on its own), reduction and stabilisation of blood sugar and therefore stress and mental health burden of managing this condition. Hypo- and hyper-glycaemic episodes that can result in required medical attention, hospitalisation, or even death are all very possible from poor T1 diabetic control, which unfortunately is currently widespread in the management of this disease.

Our diabetes remission programme has similar results to Dr David Unwin, a nationally recognised NHS GP who now has 50% of the those who opt for the programme in drug free remission.
I am a Type 1 diabetic, and among the best controlled in the country. The insights i have gained along the way, combined with my background of an engineering PhD (grounding me in root cause analysis), makes me uniquely positioned to inform and support diabetics, people living with obesity and other metabolic diseases.
