This talk takes you behind the scenes of the painting process, revealing the daring risks which Rembrandt and JMW Turner took as they combined new textures, pigments, stains and glazes in astonishing and unexpected ways, establishing a language of painting which would inspire artists and audiences for hundreds of years to come. The lecture uncovers how ground-breaking techniques practiced by these forefathers of painting lead directly to the experimental approaches of Jackson Pollock and Lucio Fontana, whose innovative experiments with light, colour, space and form paved the way for Modern Art as we know it today.
Unlock the methods of the creative mind: from broken brushes to smudged thumbmarks, raw pigment to secret sketchbooks, and torn canvases to immersive light installations, this sumptuously illustrated lecture showcases Alice’s clear, engaging presentation style as she uncovers a new way of seeing painting.
