This talk presents lots of examples of how the misuse and misunderstanding of statistics in the media. It also gives some helpful guidance on how to avoid being misled in the future.

The talk -- which I have given many times to Probus Groups and the like -- is pitched at a non-technical level and so is suitable for general audiences.

About Neil Sheldon

I am a retired teacher with experience at both school and university level. My academic interests include mathematics, philosophy, statistics, computer science and linguistics. I am a former vice-president of the Royal Statistical Society and current vice-chair of the UK Linguistics Olympiad.

I am also a big fan of early jazz, and I have broadcast many shows on internet radio.

I am an experienced public speaker, having given hundreds of talks both in person and over the internet.
