Extraordinary new techniques and styles emerged as Roman influence diminished in Europe. This talk is richly illustrated with photographs and diagrams, and explores the Byzantine, Romanesque and Gothic styles. In particular, why has the pointed 'Gothic' arch become such a standard for places of worship throughout Europe? John suggests some answers.
