Biography:

Lesley Kara is the Sunday Times bestselling author of THE RUMOUR, WHO DID YOU TELL?, THE DARE and THE APARTMENT UPSTAIRS. THE RUMOUR was the highest-selling crime-fiction debut of 2019 in the UK, and a Kindle No. 1 bestseller. Her new novel, THE OTHER TENANT, is due to be published on April 25, 2024. Lesley is an alumna of the Faber Academy 'Writing a Novel' course. Prior to becoming an author, Lesley was a lecturer and then a Director of Quality in Further Education. She lives in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

As someone who wasn't published until her early fifties, Lesley can talk not only about her books, but also about her long journey to publication and how she came to write crime fiction. She is passionate about never giving up on your dreams and how age should not be a barrier for trying new things.

As well as appearing at many literary festivals as a panel member or interviewee, eg. Henley Literary Festival, Bloody Scotland, Capital Crime, Slaughter in Southwold, Skullduggery in Stowmarket and at author events at many different branches of Waterstones and independent bookshops nationally, Lesley has also been a moderator or interviewer for other authors. She has interviewed Ann Cleeves, Mick Herron, Paula Hawkins, S.J. Watson and Fiona Barton at the Frinton Literary Festival; moderated a panel with Nicci French, Stuart Neville and Eva Bjorg Aegisdottir at the Capital Crime Festival, and hosted ‘In Conversation’ evenings with authors such as Erin Kelly and Olivia Kiernan at Goldsboro Books in London, and Tess Gerritsen at Waterstones, Liverpool One.
