Details of talks given by Fiona Balding
An experienced teacher, Fiona spent 38 years teaching Textiles and Food in secondary schools. Always a passionate print maker she was mesmerised when she discovered Ecoprinting and has worked extensively since 2016, developing her knowledge and understanding of this fascinating process which uses the natural dyes and tannins in plants to create spectacular prints on both fabric and paper.
One of the most important things that drew her into the craft was its sustainability credentials. Nothing is wasted in the production of these prints. Used plant materials are composted, mordants used in the process are natural garden fertilisers. Preferred textiles used are recycled cotton sheets, vintage linen and even old silk wedding dresses, often purchased in charity shops.
Fiona’s talks and demonstrations are a fascinating introduction into the amazing craft of Ecoprint.
