Myton was a village in its own right and is first mentioned in 1086. In 1299 it became part of Kingston-Upon-Hull. By the 19th century Myton was described as “one of the lowest slums of the town from which the police derive a great proportion of their drunk and disorderly business. The small houses are occupied by dock labourers and the poorest classes. The resort of the most abandoned women and in the low public houses scenes of violence and disorder are a frequent occurrence”. This talk explores the socio-economic conditions that led to a number of murders in the area.
