The steam-driven railway changed for ever the way in which goods as well as people were transported. But industrial production was required to move beyond the place of manufacture for several centuries before that happened. How was that done? About Fabian Hiscock

After a career in the Royal Navy and a second career in industry, I did post-graduate research in local history and have gone on from there.

I now speak on a range of topics relating to the Three Rivers Museum, local (Rickmansworth area) history, notably the diaries of a local Rickmansworth farmer, industrial transport before the railways, the impact of the coming of the canal to west Hertfordshire, and more widely the heritage of the waterways.

I can cover west Hertfordshire and south Buckinghamshire.

All my fees go to the Three Rivers Museum of which I'm 'immediate past' chairman.
