My name is Aden Hynes, I am a 3D commercial sculptor and artist, and have run my own professional studio here in my home town of Basildon, for going on 40 years. Starting out as a freelance artist in mainly the theatre world, I eventually set up base with my wife, Sue, and started Sculpture Studios. We predominantly create for the film, television, theatre, theme park, exhibition, display and private and public art sectors.

Nowadays, alongside the projects that my studio take on, I give talks and presentations at universities, college, schools, art societies, WI, Rotary, Freemason and U3A groups, and am always looking to expand my audience. My talks include a presentation of not only my portfolio, but the challenges of starting out, and the successes along the way, balancing home and a professional career.

Growing up with dyslexia, I found that I needed to find work arounds, both in every day life, as well as find ways to play to my strengths. Working with my hands and my mind, rather than an internal dictionary, seemed to be a good start. Throughout the years, running your own business means going through many learning curves as I quickly found out: employing staff, meeting different clients and even travelling the world. Each project has its own criteria to fit, such as time deadlines, materials, costs and artistic interpretation. Every day brings something new, diversity and the unexpected. This keeps me interested and wanting more, and throughout my career now spanning 4 decades, I have always been learning. I never get that ‘Monday Morning’ feeling.

I have always tried to balance my working life with a relaxing home life, and have enjoyed bringing up my four sons with my wife. The best thing about having such a great family is that they are always on-hand to help in the studio if necessary!

Somehow, having an occupation that I love, combining my artistic side, whilst getting paid for it, means I consider myself extremely lucky. To be able to earn, experiment, create, whilst enjoy the incorporation of my family in the business, feels like an absolute win win.

I love my work and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I would love to share my journey with you, should any engaging audiences be interested.
