Does leprosy still exist? How does it impact someone's life? Could I catch it? Is it curable?

Every three minutes, someone new is diagnosed with leprosy. Leprosy is a disease of poverty, surrounded by misconception, discrimination, and despair. This stops people from seeking help. So we believe that for every person diagnosed, 17 more are undiagnosed.

The Leprosy Mission works across the globe to prevent, diagnose, cure, and treat the impacts of leprosy. Hear more about this devastating disease, and how you can help stop it in it's tracks.

About Elinor Rhys Mathews

I'm a community speaker supporting those affected by leprosy.

Having visited India as a 16 year old, I was deeply impacted by the stark contrast between poverty and wealth. It led me to study international development and politics with a focus on South Asia, and to visit the region a few more times.

So, I am privileged to work for The Leprosy Mission, who prevent, diagnose, cure, and treat leprosy across the world, particularly in Asia and Africa. I live in Colchester and am willing to travel anywhere in the East of England.
