David Pibworth – British Political Scandals
David’s talk on British political scandals is an entertaining, non-party-political look at the moments that have either brought down—or come perilously close to bringing down—British governments.
His fascination began as a young man, following the Jeremy Thorpe scandal through the pages of Private Eye. While there were certainly scandals before it, David focuses on events from the Profumo affair onwards—not least because that’s about all you can sensibly squeeze into a lively 45-minute talk.
Delivered with wit, insight, and a keen eye for the absurd, the talk explores the characters, consequences, and occasional farce behind some of Britain’s most memorable political controversies.
David brings along a portable projector to enhance the experience with photographs and slides, adding context—and the occasional visual punchline—to the stories.
