A raw and honest talk, drawing on my own experiences from residential support worker through to Registered Manager and beyond. I talk of those who inspired me, and why that inspiration mattered at times that there were so many barriers to be faced. I talk of how leadership roles in the sector at times felt unbearable and how I had to fight my own demons in order to become the leader I am today.

I then talk about solutions, about how things can be better, about how a small investment of time and some practical hands on support can go a long way to ensuring stability of leadership.

I talk candidly and openly about my experiences, calling on examples that I have lived and breathed, in the hope that others are able to learn from my experiences. My mission is that nobody should have to sacrifice their own mental health in order to support those who need it the most. I also talk about my experience in building truly effective teams of people, developing recruitment practices beyond filling a void and creating the bespoke development packages that they need in order to truly thrive.

I can tailor this session in length to suit the needs of the audience and, with some notice, can adapt to create some interactive sessions suitable for your audience

About Rebecca Butler

I am a children's social care professional with nearly 20 years experience, and half of that in leadership roles. I have fought against operations not willing or able to support their staff and managers, worked days on end to keep services running and simultaneously supported the teams that do, all whilst ensuring that the young people receive the best level of care possible, despite what is going on around them. This sector is my absolute calling in life, yet working in it has nearly cost me mine on several occasions and I am determined to get the message out there not only is it possible to provide care to children whilst providing exemplary support to staff teams, but actually that it is the only way to do it if we want to create sustainable long term homes.
