Hi,
I am writing to you today to share the story of Sandy, a truly remarkable animal whose life, despite its hardships, deserves to be remembered. Sandy's early life was far from idyllic. From the time she was a puppy, she endured considerable mistreatment, a stark contrast to the financial burden her care placed on those responsible for her well-being.
Sandy suffered greatly. She was shot with a pellet gun and subjected to physical abuse. Her life was further complicated by my own misfortunes, including injuries and attacks. Despite these challenges, Sandy consistently attempted to assist me, though her efforts often resulted in further mistreatment for her.
One day, while walking with Sandy in the fields, I suffered a stroke. Unaware of what was happening, I collapsed. It was Sandy who, somehow, managed to pull me from the dense brush and into a more visible location, allowing passersby to see me and summon help. Without her intervention, the outcome could have been tragically different.
Sandy's story is a testament to the resilience and unwavering loyalty of animals. Despite the cruelty she experienced, she possessed an innate capacity for compassion and a willingness to help, even at her own expense. I hope her story serves as a reminder of the importance of kindness and respect towards all living creatures.

I’m Stephen Beer, an award-winning podcaster and radio host based in Devon, dedicating my work to meeting people at life’s crossroads—where trauma, mental health, faith, relationships, and hope intersect. My space is inclusive, unhurried, and honest: no performative positivity, just real stories, real grace, and real connection.
Crossroads began as a conversation and has grown into a community—through in-depth interviews, daily Breakfast & Coffee segments, seasonal projects, and practical outreach across our local area. I believe the most powerful healing happens when we share our stories openly, listen deeply, and walk alongside one another—whether that’s in a studio, at a live event, or putting hope into action through local housing advocacy and Christmas Hope Box initiatives.
We don’t just talk about change; we build it together, one honest conversation at a time.
