How Miranda overcame a life-threatening illness to reinvent herself as a singer-songwriter.

Miranda was quite an ordinary woman in her mid-fifties. She enjoyed listening to music, but it never occurred to her that she might be able to sing, and she certainly didn’t envisage herself performing solo with a guitar, and playing songs that she’d written! Not only that, but that she’d record her own albums on CD, the first one of which was produced by her teenage hero, the musician and entertainer Richard Digance, who became her mentor.

This is a story of how it may never be too late to change direction in life; how Miranda learned the importance of ‘seizing the moment’; and how, with a bit of determination, you might be able to achieve things you never dreamed of!

About Miranda Pender

Miranda didn’t start playing guitar or writing songs until her mid-fifties, but has more than made up for it since! She has recorded two CDs, ‘Petrol Station Flowers’ and ‘Lifting the Lid’, and published a booklet of song lyrics, ‘Late-Flowering Lyricist’. She performs in pubs, folk clubs and at festivals, and several of her songs have been played on local radio. Raunchy, romantic, heartbreaking, humorous, Miranda’s subjects range from shipwrecks to stalkers; from the perils of punting to that awkward situation where you discover your lover’s name sewn into the back of his underpants…..

She has established herself as a popular speaker, telling the stories behind the songs and delighting audiences with a light-hearted mix of words and music. Typical comments include: “It was so nice to be able to hear all the words you were singing”, and “We really enjoyed something that was a little bit different”.

She lives in Sherborne (having recently moved from Saffron Walden in Essex), and is normally prepared to travel throughout Dorset, Somerset and Wiltshire. Please contact her to discuss the options for bookings further afield.

From March to October Miranda is available mornings, afternoons and evenings; November to February, afternoons only. She will always consider a short-notice booking to cover a cancellation.

Miranda plays an acoustic guitar, unplugged in small venues, or through an amplifier and with a microphone for larger ones. She can supply all the equipment, which is PAT tested, and she holds Public Liability Insurance.
