I love my home county of Yorkshire. We are the UK's biggest county (historic county boundary) and we are a country in our own right. I write every Saturday for the Yorkshire Post, mainly about farming and the countryside, but I also write about Yorkshire's great characters in the Yorkshire Post Magazine published each Saturday in the main paper. I've written for the YP for over 30 years and I wear it like a badge of pride. When I was a kid, batting on the beach at Scarborough, I was Geoffrey Boycott. I was born in Kingston upon Hull. I've worked in media all my working life - Hull Daily Mail, Yorkshire Post, Viking FM, BBC Radio. I've had over 20 books published. I follow Hull Kingston Rovers, Hull City, Leeds United, Yorkshire CCC. I've opened the batting for my village team, I've played for Farndale in the North York Moors. I'm currently playing Masters Rugby League for Southlands who play on the iconic Knavesmire at York Racecourse. I am a keen runner of everything from 5K to half marathons. I live in Aberford and run the Aberford Literature Festival, Aberford Authors, Aberford Youth Authors, Aberford Junior Authors, Aberford Authors Drama Collective. I've acted in all kinds of plays and pantomimes (Oh Yes I have!) from John Godber's Happy Families to Jean Anouilh's Antigone; from a musical about William Wilberforce to I, Claudius. I've even written two pantomimes. My books are the unique and No 1 on Amazon crime thriller series that features fictitious rugby league star Greg Duggan; my children's books about Milkman Mike; and autobiographies/biographies on many Yorkshire people including Tony Christie and Joe Longthorne. I've played as singer/guitarist at theatres throughout the UK supporting Joe Longthorne, Midge Ure, Billy Pearce and Heatwave. I've toured Yorkshire with my one-man show. I've also released my own solo albums of all my own songs. This year I will have three new releases (two novels, one autobiographical about my 35 years writing about farming) plus already had two new releases - books of radio plays written in collaboration with Aberford Authors Drama Collective, to be performed 'live' at Writing On Air. If you'd like an inspirational, fun talk about how one county makes a difference, I'm your guy!

About Chris Berry

I'm an author and journalist with a long career writing and editing for magazines, newspapers and websites such as The Yorkshire Post.

I'm also the author of the Amazon #1 best-sellers Tough Season, Tough Season in the Sun, Tough World & Tough Season The French Connection (The Greg Duggan Series) (action thrillers) and author of Show of Affection (romantic comedy).

I have written over 20 books including fiction and non-fiction. Others are autobiographies (ghost writer) for Tony Christie, Joe Longthorne and Bruce Jones (Coronation Street's Les Battersby); biographies of Yorkshire people; and my children's book series, Milkman Mike.

This year will see the launch of three new publications - Show of Affection (June 2026); 35 Years of Writing about Farming (June 2026); Tough Season The Return (October 2026) - whilst maintaining my weekly column in The Yorkshire Post, magazine writing, commentary at the Great Yorkshire Show, hosting the Yorkshire Post Rural Awards, watching my beloved Hull Kingston Rovers at every opportunity, hosting Aberford Literature Festival, writing radio dramas with Aberford Authors Drama Collective, performing at Writing On Air, running (I'm a keen runner), playing Masters Rugby League for Southlands in York, following the success of a Point to Point horse my wife and I have a small share in, playing with my 4-piece band (singer/guitarist) at festivals, special events and bars, playing solo acoustic at the same. I can bring my guitar too!

My variety of writing/life makes for lively, fun and enjoyable talks. I've spoken and performed everywhere from London to the Outer Hebrides, in theatres and church/village halls; literary societies to U3As and literature festivals. I've toured the UK as support act for Joe Longthorne, Midge Ure, Billy Pearce and Heatwave.

If there’s a teapot and an audience, I’m there.
