The German word doppelgänger means double-goer or double walker, and suggests the idea that we each harbour a double, an invisible companion who follows us like a shadow, and who may even go places and do things without our knowledge. In this talk, Somerset speaker and novelist Dr Justin Newland explores the nuances of the double and the doppelgänger in art, literature and folklore, and conjures some of the mysteries of the soul.
