In the final years of my career in the Royal Air Force I was involved in delivering the funerals for HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and the Coronation of their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla.
These historic occasions were broadcast to billions of people and viewed in over 100 countries. In this talk I provide some 'behind the scenes' highlights into how these events were rehearsed and performed to the exceptional standard that the UK military are known and respected for. I share my own personal reflections on participating in these events with insights into what it takes to coordinate these occasions, and share a few 'you couldn't make this up but it is true' moments.
Awarded an OBE for service to the RAF in Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II's final New Year Honours List and appointed a Member of the Royal Victorian Order by King Charles III for service to the Royal family, I can bring my medals for people to view them.
Views: 140 | Enquiries: 2I served for over 26 years in the Royal Air Force as a musician before commissioning as a Director of Music. Appointed as the Principal Director of Music for the final seven years of my career I was responsible for all music support to State Ceremonial, defence engagement and the third sector Service charities.
Throughout my career I was fortunate to travel to some extraordinary places, meet Royalty, Heads of State, and work with some of the UK's most famous professional musicians. I can provide some unique insights into leading a creative workforce within a military setting and provide 'behind the scenes' understanding to how the large scale ceremonial events of recent years were put together.
Based in Lincolnshire I am willing to travel with expenses applied.
Testimonials
Piers was recommended by another local speaker when my arranged speaker had to pull out a few days before they were due to present to our Retirees Association. Fortunately Piers was able to step in….and what a bonus that was for us! Without doubt, his presentation was one of the best, (if not the best), we’ve had in a long time. All of the approximately 50 strong audience were kept engaged for the whole of the 45 minutes of Piers' talk. The subject matter is obviously very interesting and one that people can relate to, but I believe it was Piers' presentation style which makes the talk a truly winning combination. Even though he had no reference notes, his narration was flawless and delivered in a really friendly and relaxed manner…plus his timing was impeccable. Anyone would be mad not to engage him for this talk!
Piers Morrell gave an admirable talk to our History group; he kindly agreed to help us at fairly short notice when our expected speaker had to withdraw. The content was absolutely fascinating and surely wholly novel to all of us, and his unusual story was told with wit and humour. He is personally charming and his presentation skills are excellent: a good Powerpoint show with a couple of sound tracks included, a pleasant speaking voice, and the whole thing just the right length (with lots of audience questions and comments afterwards to complete our pleasure). With engaging and justified pride he brought along his medals and some other interesting documents connected to his talk. Recommended without reservation!
First class talk - fascinating and delivered brilliantly.
