There are many new homes being built with ‘blank canvas’ gardens. For many of the people moving into them, these are their first homes and first gardens; or they might come from a flat in a city. This Talk is aimed to assist these people – but will have relevance to all gardeners at any stage of experience too. It is a whistle stop run, touching on many aspects of creating a new garden and learning how to look after it. The Talk starts with some essential design principles leading to plant know-how basics. Along the way we dip in and out of case studies and how to make sense of your local garden centre. If your Club is trying to attract a new and younger crowd, this could be the Talk for you.

About Lucy Hartley

Lucy Hartley began her professional life as a secondary school science teacher and taught for seven years before starting a family. Lucy's mother is a keen gardener, as was her grandmother and Lucy has followed in their footsteps. She has always enjoyed art as a hobby. On returning to work Lucy chose to combine these interests and re-train as a garden designer. She has been Designing and Rejuvenating gardens since 2006 and giving Talks to Gardening Clubs since 2016. Listening to International and local news about the Ecological and Biological Crisis due to pollution and Climate Change, Lucy's focus is very much on wildlife and net gain makeovers. This also means that she will no longer travel by car over 45mins from her location in Wellesbourne to do an in-person Talk. Talks to anywhere can still be done remotely if the Club is able to set this up. Please check the Lucy Hartley Gardens website for more information on Lucy's Environmental Policy.
