An illustrated talk on the British invasion of Argentina in 1806 resulting in the defeat of a British Expeditionary Force jointly led by Major General Beresford and Commodore Sir Home Popham.
The British redcoats were defeated by a locally raised militia supported by civilians and irregular troops and forced to surrender. More than half of those taken into captivity were never seen again.
This event, initiated a chain of events that would result in Argentina declarning independence in 1810.

I am a Battlefield Guide having led groups to the Western Front, to Normandy, and to Malta. I have participated in battlefield studies of the Napoleonic Wars and have presented on some aspects of these to peer groups.
I have presented talks of general and military historical interest as a member of my local U3A group - and have been invited to give similar talks to other associated groups.
My talks are illustrated and informative and last for approximately 45 minutes.
In my spare time, I volunteer with the RAF Air Cadets.
Prior to taking up a 25-year career in Higher Education management, I served in the RAF on a variety of roles and Squadrons throughout the UK, in Germany and in the Falkland Islands.
